Downtown San Diego is where all the action is! It features the sub areas of Marina District, East Village, Little Italy, Gaslamp District, Cortez Hill, Core Business District, and Columbia next to the Marina area.
Downtown is the largest tourist attraction area. The San Diego Convention Center hosts every July the Comic Conference (Comicon) which brings in more than 130,000 attendees over the four day weekend. Other events held are the Big Bay Balloon Parade held for the Holiday Bowl for college football, the Parade of Lights, and San Diego Street Scene music festival.
Petco Park is centered in the East village, home of the San Diego Padres and attracts big ticket entertainers. Also located in the East village is the brand new San Diego library which also doubles as a host for events and weddings.
Towards the San Diego Bay you will find a terminal for over 200 cruise ships and local tours around the bay. Horton plaza is located in the center of downtown and features a brand new square where live street entertainers frequent along with modern art and lots of shopping, restaurants, and theaters.
